Traditional Cumbia

'Traditional Cumbia' from Loopmasters is a tribute to Colombian cumbia, originating from the Atlantic Coast of Colombia where African and Indigenous influences blend. Widely considered the most representative musical style of Colombia, cumbia embodies the fusion of African and Spanish cultures and remains deeply alive today, present across many musical scenes including urban spaces where young musicians gather for drum circles and spontaneous jam sessions rooted in traditional sounds.

The rhythm is driven by African drums arranged in a specific hierarchy, while melodies are carried by gaitas and flutes - instruments inspired by birdsong and crafted by skilled artisans from the region. The goal with this pack was not to recreate an industrialised version of cumbia, but to focus on the raw and ancestral essence of the tradition.

The melancholic and magical sound of the gaitas and flutes creates melodies nearly impossible to replicate with other instruments, while tambor alegre and maracas provide the rhythmic foundation. Spatial and rhythmic electric guitars add a modern touch, synthesizer arrangements introduce new depth, and Colombian vocalists bring ceremonial energy through expressive voices and unforgettable hooks.
