Loup Barrow: The Cristal Baschet

'Loup Barrow: The Cristal Baschet' from Loopmasters is a unique collection of sounds centred around the Cristal Baschet, an acoustic sculptural instrument invented in the 1950s by the Baschet brothers. Played through friction on glass rods and amplified by metal and fibreglass resonators, it produces a sound world that is both organic, ethereal, and deeply expressive - fully chromatic and spanning approximately four and a half octaves. All recordings were performed by Loup Barrow, a musician, composer, and sound explorer specialising in rare acoustic instruments and extended techniques.

From performing before the Maharaja of Rajasthan and appearing live on Chinese television, to standing at the edge of the Arctic Circle escorted by orcas and sharing the stage with the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris before an audience of 70,000, Loup Barrow has always carried a single profound intention: to forge an intimate connection with his audience. His encounter with the Cristal Baschet in 2005 was a turning point - he immediately became deeply attached to this "crystal organ" and has since devoted himself to mastering it, performing at festivals across more than 25 countries and recording his latest album Immineo with a symphonic orchestra. The collection explores the full sonic range of the instrument using high-quality close and ambient microphone techniques with minimal processing to maintain authenticity and dynamic range.
